The cycle

The GradPlanHQ Growth Cycle

The same loop, every semester.

Each move builds on the last: a goal you can name, work that supports it, proof you can show, and a story that gets stronger every semester.

  1. 01

    Connect

Connect Your Goals to a Strategy

Start with the goal, then decide how you will get there: the strategy, signals, people, resources, opportunities, and next move that support it. Consider what already exists and what still needs to be developed.

The Personal Asset Inventory is one tool for identifying useful inputs during Connect. It is not the whole stage.

  2. 02

    Build

    Create Meaningful Experiences

Create meaningful experiences that support your strategy: a project, role, collaboration, credential, visibility practice, relationship-building activity, or work already underway that you improve intentionally. When the work can be observed, identify someone who may be able to provide feedback or verify the contribution.

Asking someone to provide feedback or verify the contribution is a valuable design practice when applicable. It is not the definition of Build and is not required for every meaningful experience.

  3. 03

    Grow

Turn Experience Into Evidence & Visibility

Reflect on the experience to identify the story, skills, values, frameworks, and value created. Capture the outcomes and the evidence. Amplify it so the evidence reaches people. Relationships may strengthen, verify, and extend the work.

    Grow happens in three moves:

    • Reflect
    • Capture
    • Amplify
  4. 04

    Repeat

    Compound Your Advantage

Run the cycle again. Each turn compounds experience, evidence, visibility, and relationships. Repeated signals strengthen your reputation. Repeated experiences strengthen your brand. Together, they build career momentum.

You don't need more advice. You need a system you actually use.

The free guide turns the loop into moves you can start this semester.

No email required. Ends with your first four moves. Black and white, ink-friendly

Three ways to move forward: use a Project Launcher to create new experience, use Action & Momentum Meetups to practice and make progress, and use the Community App to stay connected between sessions.

Action & Momentum Meetups

A one-hour virtual working session. Real progress on what matters most.

Each meetup is pinned to a Project Launcher or one of nine repeating processes, so you know why you're there before you RSVP. Choose a goal that matters this semester, pick the process that supports it, and use the meetup to make meaningful progress.

Choose a Project Launcher session when you're building a project, or choose one of nine recurring professional-development sessions when you're working on networking, LinkedIn, credentials, résumés, interviews, visibility, classwork, or existing work.

  • Build the Foundation for Your Authentic Personal Brand

    Goal 1 · Connect & Discover

    • Identify your values, interests, and story
    • Craft your LinkedIn bio and profile
    • Grow your online presence and network
  • Build Experience That Strengthens Your Brand

    Goal 2 · Build Experience

    • Create projects to develop your skills
    • Turn class projects into work experience
    • Earn credentials that validate your skills
  • Practice Telling Your Story and Increasing Your Visibility

Goal 3 · Tell Your Story

    • Translate skills to your resume effectively
    • Build impact stories for your interviews
    • Build trust and credibility via your socials

How the hour goes

  1. Ice breakers and low-key networking practice
  2. A quick walk-through of the resources for that process
  3. Protected work time — you're working, not watching
  4. Q&A before you go

The RSVP creates a scheduled work block, not just a learning session. Multiple time slots and evening sessions fit a real schedule, and resources stay available on the community app if your hours are weird.

Ice breakers and low-key networking practice mean you'll leave with at least one new LinkedIn connection. Small groups are always optional.

The Community App

Between meetups, the work keeps moving

The Community App is private and members-only, not another Facebook group. Practice networking, ask for feedback on your LinkedIn or interview stories, trade introductions, find collaborators from your campus, and join a Project Launcher group when you're running one.

  • Post a draft and get feedback before it's finished — that's where shoutouts start.
  • A growing resource library with templates, showcases, and replays, so a missed week costs nothing.
  • Three speed-networking sessions a year: short video rounds matched by goal, with card exchange.
  • Vetted community partners who want to mentor a student and can become a reference.

You're not doing this alone. The Practice Field gives you structure. The community around it helps you find opportunities, feedback, and people who keep you moving.

You don't have to lead a project to get your money's worth — a project is one path through the cycle, not the toll booth.

  • Networking reps week after week
  • A professional development organization on your resume
  • Be a project mentor
  • Directory and feed

Jobs to be done

What students are trying to get done

Most students don't join because they need another community. They join because there's something they're trying to move forward. Pick the challenge that sounds most like you.

Build the Foundation for Your Authentic Personal Brand

Your values and story, your profile, and the reps that grow your network.

  • Figure out what to say about myself and build my profile
  • Learn what to share and how to share it
  • Start building a professional network
  • Build credibility with people beyond my friends
  • Introduce myself without rehearsing for an hour
  • Join conversations without going quiet
  • Know what to say when I reach out to someone new
  • Find people to start something with

Build Experience That Strengthens Your Brand

Projects, class work, roles, collaborations, credentials, volunteer work, or work already underway.

  • Figure out where to even start
  • Figure out what kind of project would fit my goals
  • Build experience if I don't land an internship
  • Find and approach an organization I could help
  • Actually finish what I start
  • Make progress without starting a project right now
  • Cover a resume gap that's growing after graduation
  • Find a credible way to back up the skills I claim
  • Use what I know to help someone else succeed
  • Close a bigger gap this semester

Practice Telling Your Story and Increasing Your Visibility

Resume lines, interview stories, references, and proof people can see.

  • Translate my skills and experience into stronger resume content
  • Build better interview stories from work I've already done
  • Build trust and credibility through my online presence
  • Figure out how to document and share my work so people can see it
